IBC2025: IBC Conference to tackle media transformation and technology disruption

The IBC2025 Conference will explore the forces reshaping the industry, with the three-day, paid-for programme covering a range of topics from AI disruption and immersive storytelling to the evolution of platforms and business models.

The conference opens on 12 September with the IABM Industry Impact Briefing: Leading Successful Transformations in Media Business (09:15–10:15, Conference Room 1). Designed as an executive’s guide to the trends and technologies shaping broadcast media, the session will deliver data-driven insights and first access to IABM’s State of MediaTech report.

The briefing will also feature conversations with influential media buyers and vendors, providing attendees with strategic context for their IBC experience. Moderated by IABM’s Chris Evans and Purminder Gandhu, speakers include Gareth Gordon (QTV), Nicola Cogotti (Alpha Cogs), and Stef Lone (AWS).

Immediately following, the CTO Roundtable: Unlocking Potential – Adopting and Adapting the New Tools of the Trade (12 September, 10:30–11:30) will examine how broadcasters are moving beyond traditional infrastructure to embrace AI, generative AI, and sustainable, intelligent systems. With technology evolution accelerating, CTOs are tasked with rethinking how value is created and scaled. Maria Ingold (mireality) moderates a high-level discussion with Avi Saxena (Warner Bros. Discovery) and Simon Farnsworth (ITV).

On 13 September (09:30–10:00), the spotlight shifts to public service broadcasting with In Conversation with Noel Curran, Director General of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Curran will offer perspectives on how Europe’s largest alliance of public media organisations is navigating industry disruption.

The conference programme culminates on 14 September with a keynote from Mike Darcey, media industry commentator and advisor: Rights, Economics, and the New Shape of Broadcasting (15:05–15:35). Darcey – who is also delivering the opening keynote at the SVG Europe Summit on 11 September, will address the seismic shifts driven by the evolving economics of content rights, rising production costs, and new business models. With streaming fatigue setting in, he will argue that the future lies in building direct, lasting audience relationships through innovation.
