Insight TV adopts Advanced HDR and announces Russian distribution deal

UHD broadcaster and producer Insight TV has announced that it is using Advanced HDR by Technicolor and confirmed that it has secured a new distribution deal in Russia with federal information and communication services operator JSC ER-Telecom.

Advanced HDR by Technicolor is composed of Technicolor HDR and Technicolor HDR Intelligent Tone Management (ITM) technologies that are used for up, down and cross-convert its existing UHD content library, providing the highest quality to all end-users.

Kirk Barker, SVP head of HDR programming, Technicolor, said: “After several comparison tests, Insight TV has, like many other customers, selected our dynamic conversion and distribution technologies, Technicolor HDR ITM and Technicolor HDR to produce and deliver the best possible SDR and HDR quality for each individual image to any end-user display.

“We deliver our unique immersive content to networks and platforms around the world and it’s essential that we meet all their technical requirements while ensuring the highest possible quality of our content in SDR and HDR, UHD and HD,” said Gavin Ho, technical director, Insight TV. “We looked at a number of conversion tools and found that Technicolor solutions suited all of our needs.”

Meanwhile, through the new deal with JSC ER-Telecom, Insight TV’s 4K UHD channel is now available to Dom.ru digital TV viewers with UHD-capable equipment. Insight TV highlights the unique and interesting stories behind action sports, entertainment and lifestyle through trending communities and the global influencers within these communities. Highlights include innovative documentaries, reality shows and extreme action sports shows.

This deal expands Insights TV’s presence in Russia and emphasises its readiness to provide high-quality broadcasting across a wide range of territories.

Graeme Stanley, chief commercial officer, Insight TV, said: “Russia is an important region for us and we’re pleased to partner with ER-Telecom to bring our content to a greater number of viewers there. This deal further underscores our huge growth in the past 12 months and our commitment to delivering immersive, 4K UHD content worldwide.”

Lyubov Vasilenkova, sales department head of First HDTV TV-company, added: “We’re developing jointly with our partners and we’re aiming to be ahead of the curve by partnering with modern operators such as ER-Telecom. The operator offers its subscribers the new format of 4К broadcasting and we are pleased that Insight TV will become the new 4K channel permanently available for ER-Telecom subscribers.”

Ksenia Borovikova, content management service head, JSC ER-Telecom, concluded: “When choosing a UHD channel, we focused on the interests of our clients. Insight TV broadcasts various topics that are interesting for a wide range of viewers: meetings with amazing people, their hobbies, action sports, unusual discoveries, extreme trips and many other things. The channel’s resolution is four times higher than HD format, and the clearer and the more realistic the picture is, the more vivid the viewers’ experience is. The new broadcasting standard is an important step for Dom.ru as one of the biggest operators in Russia.”
