International Biathlon Union launches new website powered by Deltatre

The International Biathlon Union (IBU), the international umbrella organisation for all parties representing the sport of biathlon, recently launched a revamped digital platform. Designed and engineered by global sport media services company Deltatre, biathlonworld.com aims to bring a new level of accessibility to the IBU competitions.

Deltatre’s team based in Munich, were chosen to assist the IBU in creating a new, stronger digital presence to better connect with all its target groups and ‘tell a story’ throughout the season, taking fans through the pre-race build up to race time excitement and beyond.

The responsive site is available in English, German and Russian and IBU’s newly developed style guide has been transformed using a clean and intuitive design. “The use of emotive imagery and the creation of a social media hub have been specifically leveraged to engage with fans, which was a very important part of the site redesign for the IBU,” said Ingo Lalla, Deltatre’s commercial director.

Drawing on Deltatre’s digital experience, biathlonworld.com is powered by Forge, Deltatre’s sport responsive website solution. A sport specific CMS provides editors with an efficient way to publish news, photos and blog posts and push them across multiple platforms including, web, mobile and social channels. The website also features SportTeller, Deltatre’s storytelling solution to inform, educate and entertain sport fans. It enables the IBU to produce fast turnaround content which is essential to connect with fans, hungry for information post-race. Viewed in a single page, easy to access content is provided in a sequence of scenes that can integrate text with audio visual content, allowing the IBU to tell the perfect sporting story.

Anders Besseberg, president IBU, said: “The decision for our new digital platform was much more than just about a website relaunch. It was following a two-stepped approach, to firstly implement our new brand concept, communication audit and long term communication strategy, and secondly to open ourselves up to the opportunities a global leader in digital sport solutions could bring. The challenge was also the very short timeframe of seven weeks from the start of the project until launch, which has been achieved with close cooperation with Deltatre in Munich and Torino. More development steps are to follow but we see the launch as the basis for further improvement and success. We are very happy to offer international sport and its spirit the modern digital possibilities biathlon sport deserves.”
