SVG Europe editor, Heather McLean, will be giving the keynote speech, presenting the opportunities offered by 5G technology for the sports broadcasting sector. She will be joined by speakers including BT Sport’s Matt Stagg, director of mobile strategy, and broadcaster Maggie Philbin OBE.

Commented Riikka Koponen, principle analyst, IABM: “For live sports production, 5G is a game changer; it saves money, set up time and removes all that temporary fibre cabling laid at sports events. For example, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London has 1,200km of networking cabling. Why not send a remote production team using 5G cameras on site and delivering an equally superb – or immersive – experience to viewers, who can watch the match wherever they are?”

Attendees will be able to learn what 5G can do for their organisations and hear how they can harness this potential with case studies from other organisations who have already trialled and deployed 5G.

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the rollout of 5G networks, as telcos responded to the spiking demand for ultrafast broadband connectivity. The IABM says that global 5G network infrastructure revenue is estimated to grow by 39% year on year, reaching over $19 billion in 2021.
