Linear Acoustic audio upmixing for Winter Games production

NBC Olympics has selected Linear Acoustic to provide audio upmixing and technical support for its production of the Winter Games. The announcement was made by Karl Malone, Director, Sound Design, NBC Sports & Olympics, and John Schur, President of the TV Solutions Group of the Telos Alliance.

Over 40 Linear Acoustic UPMAX v4 units, along with the UPMAX algorithm as a plugin for Avid workstations, have been delivered to NBC Olympics for their coverage of the Winter Games. Additionally, a ‘state of the art upmix’ algorithm which creates immersive audio for next generation audio formats, such as Dolby ATMOS, will be debuted at these Games. Linear Acoustic is also providing MT2000 Multichannel Bitstream Analyzers and on-site technical support in PyeongChang.

“We are honoured to work closely with the team at NBC Olympics on their coverage of the PyeongChang Winter Games,” said Schur. “Linear Acoustic has been part of delivering engaging 5.1-channel surround experiences to NBC’s viewers since the Beijing Games in 2008, and we are excited to once again deliver next generation immersive audio to NBC Olympics for the upcoming Olympic Winter Games.”

“NBC Olympics is delighted to have Linear Acoustic supporting us” said Malone. “We will again rely on Linear Acoustic upmix algorithms to help highlight our surround and immersive audio production. Linear Acoustic understands the high level of quality and reliability NBC Olympics requires in any capture and processing of audio content.”
