Linear Acoustic founder to address the London Loudness Summit
Tim Carroll, president and founder of Linear Acoustic, will deliver a presentation that will examine loudness from the consumer’s standpoint with a special focus on compliance versus audio quality, and a look at what really satisfies viewers.
The London Loudness Summit will take place this Friday (7 December) at the home of the Royal Institute of British Architects, on Portland Place in central London.
Linear Acoustic is a sponsor of the summit, alongside the likes of Dolby, NUGEN Audio, TSL Professional Products, Studer and HHB Communications.
Tim Carroll comments: “Regulations are appearing because viewers aren’t happy with the loudness shifts in television audio. But if broadcasters don’t take a thoughtful approach to measuring and controlling loudness, they risk compromising the vision of the producers who created the content, and that’s not going to make viewers happy either.”
Carroll’s presentation will examine potential consequences of blindly measuring and correcting loudness. It will also address the role of dynamic range compression and metadata, and describe new hybrid techniques now available in Linear Acoustic audio/loudness platforms which satisfy viewers and preserve content.
A video of the presentation will be available on the company’s website at https://linearacoustic.com following the summit on 7 December. More information about the Loudness Summit is available at https://www.broadcastaudioseries.com/london2012/.
