Live From IBC 2024: Riedel Communications’ Jan Schaffner on Development of RefCam With Bundesliga Refs

The Riedel Communications stand at IBC 2024 (10.A31) is filled with new products, including the all-new Smart Audio & Mixing Engine SAME audio processing software suite, which offered extensive workflow automation and flexibility. In addition, Riedel has launched the Virtual SmartPanel (VSP), an all-new software solution that enables users to leverage their mobile devices for remote intercom connections. Lastly, Riedel Communications has launched two new additions to its acclaimed Network Stream Adapter (NSA) series: the NSA-003A and NSA-006A.

Jan Schaffner, Program Director, Riedel Communications, discusses the RefCam, which was developed by Riedel in collaboration with Bundesliga referees. A miniature camera was mounted on a referee’s head to broadcast live footage of their perspective, enhancing viewers’ experience by providing an immersive view of the action. The Ref Cam system includes a camera mounted on the referee’s head and a transmission unit on their belt, which sends live video signals to a receiving point, allowing viewers to see exactly what the referee sees during the game.
