Live from the World Cup: Sky Italia Gets Close with Cinevideo UltraMotion

Cinevideo Television Facilities is on hand in Brazil in support of Sky Italia’s production efforts for World Cup football coverage. And the focus is on providing a unilateral camera system that will help Sky Italia better capture the emotion on the pitch. “We have our UltraMotion camera here and it shoots 1,000 frames per second, taking close up shots of players for Brazil and Germany [at tonight’s semi-final],” says Andrea Buonomo, Cinevideo, executive sales manager. “We also used it for the coverage of the matches with Italy, the French-Germany quarterfinal and also we will use it in Rio for the final.”

The Ultramotion camera system is based on the iMovix camera system and is integrated into the host feed inside a LiveSat production van that is also on site at the matches. A For-A production switcher is used to mix the close-ups into the match coverage.

“In Italy we have five trucks including two SNG vehicles and one for the UltraMotion system,” adds Buonomo. “We also provide it for Sky Italia’s football coverage in Italy and also have another system that we used for the Euro Cup Champions League final in Torino, Italy that can remove noise flickering. That was the first time it was used in the Final.”

Following the World Cup the system will take a month-long break before the Italian football league season begins in August.
