London summit event to explore content discovery and navigation

MESA Europe and HITS Europe have announced details of the inaugural European Content Discovery & Navigation Forum, to take place in London on Thursday 26 November. The event will reflect the explosive growth in content availability across multiple delivery platforms and across an expanding range of access devices, and the challenges this presents for the industry in helping the end consumer find, select and engage with a title.

Jim Bottoms, executive director of MESA Europe, comments: “The importance of reliable and easy to access content discovery and intuitive navigation cannot be understated today, and its role is going to take on even greater significance in the years ahead. Our content community Advisory Board, together with our member companies, have highlighted this topic as being a priority area for information exchange and senior level discussion, with so many different parts of the industry needing to align in order to keep up with the rapidly changing consumer needs and technology solutions.”

The Forum will take place at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London, and will comprise a blend of industry presentations, informed panel sessions and open floor discussion, with industry specialists drawn from across the content community.

“We are delighted that Gold Sponsor Rovi will be working with us to help produce this event and will deliver the keynote presentation, sharing their thoughts and ideas on what is needed to keep ahead in this sector,” adds David Millar, communications director of MESA Europe.

Increasingly sophisticated metadata sits at the heart of any Search and Discovery solution, but it is perhaps the evolution and expansion of viewing and listening devices and the changing consumer interface that are driving the rapid changes taking place, with touchscreen and voice recognition being just two of the technologies that must be embraced.

Key topics for discussion will include: what more can we expect from ‘Recommendation’; meeting the App challenge; how far can semantics go to improve search accuracy?; maximising the benefit from consumer analytics; and where next for mobile discovery?
