Miranda to launch Kaleido-XQUAD

There are few production technologies that have changed more rapidly over the past few years than the studio and truck multiviewer. That evolution will continue when Miranda Technologies launches its standalone Kaleido-XQUAD quad-split multiviewer.

“Where this QUAD differentiates itself is that, logically, each Quad interacts with the others,” says Louis Caron, senior product manager at Miranda. “The operator seems to be dealing with just one system as opposed to multiple individual devices, so it’s easier for them to operate and configure the monitor wall.

“It’s very important to have all of the devices talking together to simplify the workflow and to make sure everything is in sync.”

The quad-split operates with the same software as the larger Kaleido family multi-viewers and, because of Miranda’s cluster feature, unlike other basic quad split processors, the Kaleido-XQUAD can be logically linked to more quad split processors for large monitor wall quad views and operated seamlessly as one system.

To streamline production operations, the Kaleido-XQUAD processors offer tight integration with NVISION and third party routers, with source control and centralised mnemonic database access. It also offers integration with many third party production switchers, with tally support via direct serial interface.

Another useful innovation for live sports production is the implementation of multiple individual quads with inexpensive displays. This offers a much smaller failure block at just four inputs. In the event of a card failure in a 16-input unit, for example, the user runs the risk of losing 16 displays, seriously jeopardising a live production.

“If there’s a failure of [the XQUAD] box,” explains Caron, “you lose just four windows, which sometimes is not that critical; you can work around it.”

Kaleido-XQUAD is available in two versions: Kaleido-XQUAD features four 3Gbps/ HD inputs and a single multi-viewer output (HDMI/HD-SDI), and Kaleido-XQUAD-DUAL offers eight 3Gbps/HD inputs and two multi-viewer outputs.
