Neutral Wireless has appointed Matt Stagg as strategy and partnerships lead as the company accelerates its global expansion in private 5G for sports, media, and live events.
The move signals a new phase of growth for Neutral Wireless as it turns its pioneering work in private networks into large-scale commercial deployment.
Neutral Wireless is already recognised as an innovator in private 5G for broadcasting, delivering award-winning projects that have redefined connectivity for live production. The company designed and delivered the world’s largest (at the time) temporary private 5G network for media coverage of the Coronation of King Charles III, connecting dozens of broadcasters.
It has also delivered multiple world-first deployments for live sports, starting back in 2021 with MotoGP then 2022 with the BT Sport and Saracens Rugby private 5G production, and more recent live-to-air deployments at stadiums, city locations and even networks at sea for Paris 2024 in France. Powered by its private 5G solutions, the company’s fully portable 5G SA system can be customised to support high bandwidth uplink-heavy camera workflows, along with other essential features such as camera control, push-to-talk intercom and network services.
The partnership brings together Stagg’s leadership in broadcast innovation and Neutral Wireless’s world-class expertise in private 5G, a combination set to redefine the connectivity landscape for live production.
Stagg said: “Neutral Wireless has achieved what many said wasn’t possible, making private 5G a practical reality for live broadcast. Throughout my career, I’ve focused on helping broadcasters use technology to change how sport is produced, delivered, and experienced, making the impossible, possible. Neutral Wireless has the capability and credibility to take those innovations global, and I’m excited to help scale the business and strengthen its position as a leader in this space.”
Stagg has spent his career at the intersection of technology, creativity, and live production. At BT Sport, he led mobile innovation strategy and drove many of the industry’s firsts in mobile and IP-enabled contribution, remote production, and low latency streaming. As an independent consultant and advisor, he has worked with broadcasters, sports federations, clubs, and mobile operators worldwide, shaping technology strategies and commercial models that bring next generation production workflows to life. He also founded the Mobile Video Alliance, a cross-industry initiative uniting broadcasters, operators, and vendors to advance the evolution of mobile and network-based media delivery.
Bob Stewart, director and CTO at Neutral Wireless, said: “Matt’s appointment marks a step change for Neutral Wireless. His experience across innovation, strategy, and commercial delivery will help us scale from proven technology to global growth. He understands both the technical and creative sides of live production, and how to connect them. We first worked with Matt in 2021 for the first private 5G live-to-air with BTSport at Silverstone’s MotoGP race, so four years later it’s great to welcome Matt on board.”
The appointment follows a series of high profile deployments by Neutral Wireless in news and sports broadcasting across Europe and North America, with further projects planned in 2025 and 2026.
