Global event services provider Overlay Events has formed a joint venture with Destination Rio to create the ‘go to’ resource for broadcasters, teams (NOCs), sponsors and others working in Rio during the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Despite Rio’s experience delivering global sports events, it remains a commercially, legally and culturally complex environment for overseas organisations.

The joint venture, Destination Rio Overlay Services, offers a broad range of locally resourced and delivered event and destination management services which enable organisations working in Rio to operate confidently and effectively to successfully deliver their projects throughout the city. Specific services include location and venue finding, temporary broadcast studios/structures, production services, NOC Houses and hospitality venues, accommodation, transport, food and beverage, staffing and event management.

All services are backed by in-house legal capabilities in areas such as company formation, visa regulations and processes for foreign and domestic workforce, as well as contracting with venues and accommodation.

Destination Rio Overlay Services has sourced a portfolio of properties including apartments, studio sites, offices and entertainment venues, while its local contacts and language liaison and management capabilities give clients access to the best service providers available.

Destination Rio, operating under the guidance of Bruce Talley as Destination Sochi, supplied venue finding and accommodation services to rights and non-rights holding broadcasters, NOC and Sponsor Houses, as well as supply partners before and during the Sochi Winter and Paralympic Games.

Overlay Events, operating within the PHD Group, was one of the largest overlay services providers to the London 2012 Games. Head of BD and broadcast, Andy Clark, oversaw the design and build of broadcast studios facilities for some of the world’s leading broadcasters during London 2012, and subsequently worked closely with Bruce Talley during Sochi 2014 to locate and provide broadcast infrastructure to broadcasters and news agencies from around the globe.

Bruce Talley, founder of Destination Rio, said: “Destination Rio Overlay Services is founded on the trust of having together delivered to the highest standards for our shared client base in the past. Destination Rio brings local knowledge, expertise and sought after locations. Andy and his colleagues at Overlay Events provide internationally proven Temporary TV Studios, Broadcast Structures and Event Services delivered to Olympic family standards.

“Whether the requirement is for specialist accommodation, hospitality and entertainment, or state of the art broadcast suites, Destination Rio Overlay Services can deal with all aspects of planning, acquisition and contracts, enabling clients to focus on their operational delivery. “

Andy Clark, Head of BD and Broadcast, Overlay Events, said: “ I am delighted to be working with Bruce and his team again to help our clients deliver their projects in Rio next summer. I look forward to repeating the successes we had with a host of clients from the Winter Games together.”
