Paris 2024: RTVE to debut UHD truck for Olympic Games coverage
RTVE has announced its comprehensive plans for covering the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, marking a significant technological milestone for the Spanish public service broadcaster.
For the first time, RTVE will broadcast the Games in UHD 4K, with RTVE’s new outside broadcast unit which will handle production and image control in HDR making its debut for the Paris Games.
RTVE said it has “prepared the best technical coverage” with the main competitions in Paris to be covered in native UHD HDR, with native 4K signals, HDR and immersive 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos sound. Content will be available on La 1 UHD, which has some 96% national coverage.
At the IBC in Paris, RTVE will have MCR controls for technical and quality management of television signals and their routing to the Central Controls in Torrespaña and San Cugat in Spain.
In addition to La 1 UHD, the Paris Olympic Games will be available across other RTVE channels including La 1, La 2, Teledeporte, Radio Nacional de España, and RTVE Play, a free streaming platform allowing them to choose which event, competition, or programme to watch live or on-demand.
A highlight of the coverage will be the opening ceremony, which, for the first time, will take place outside the Olympic stadium. Athletes will parade on boats along the River Seine, with the event broadcast simultaneously on all RTVE Olympic channels: La 1, La 2, Teledeporte, and RTVE Play. Commentary will be provided by Marcos López, Julia Luna, and Ernest Riveras, with Ana Ibáñez, Lara Gandarillas, and Nico de Vicente highlighting key moments.
Throughout the Games, Lara Gandarillas and Ana Ibáñez will report from the Trocadero next to the Eiffel Tower, while Marcos López will present daily highlights from Madrid. Coverage will begin on La 1 from 9 am until sunset in Paris, hosted by Ernest Riveras, Fe López, Roi Groba, and Alberto Freile. La 2 will focus on team sports during the central hours of the day, and Teledeporte will offer the most extensive coverage, with Arsenio Cañada, Marc Martín, and Montse Busquets leading the broadcast.
RTVE’s coverage team will include over 30 commentators and numerous technical specialists, including athletes such as Almudena Cid, Rafa Martínez, Eli Pinedo, Alberto Urdiales, Virginia Ruano, Marta Fernández, Dani Ballart, and Marta Corredera. Journalists Carlos del Amor and Mavi Doñate will provide their insights directly from Paris.
In addition, eight roaming ENG reporters equipped with portable IP 5G transmitters will deliver the latest Olympic news.
