Perfect Game: Media archiving specialist EcoDigital sold to Telestream

Telestream has bought EcoDigital, the privately-owned corporation formerly known as Front Porch Digital.

Based in Alpharetta in Georgia, EcoDigital is responsible for the Content Management Software (CMS) system Diva which manages the archiving and retrieval of video and audio assets, automating the process and providing transcoding from to and from the archive repository.

Customers include the Major League Baseball (MLB) Network.

Following the deal, EcoDigital will become a new business unit integrated into Telestream and will make use of common functions with the company including operations, sales, marketing and support.

No financials were revealed but staff are included in the acquisition.

According to Telestream, the overlap between Diva and Telestream’s flagship Vantage Media Processing Platform “highlights the potential efficiencies created by the company integration.”

EcoDigital has hundreds of customers and installations worldwide and there is a strong customer overlap with Telestream, it added.

Additionally, Diva software installations typically sit alongside Vantage systems that are providing transcoding of production media assets.

“The acquisition of EcoDigital provides more workflow solutions, especially Vantage-related, which facilitate tighter integration for the production, archive and restoration of raw and finished assets. Once the integration is completed, our customers can be even more efficient in the management of their production assets.”

EcoDigital’s cloud strategy is said to be in line with Telestream’s with both companies investing in the cloud and both being cloud-agnostic.

Diva’s storage repository can be hosted on-premise, utilising almost any vendors physical storage – including online, nearline or deep storage on LTO tape – or hosted in the cloud on Google, Microsoft, AWS, Alibaba or Oracle.

“This integration has been well thought out – the end result will create greater efficiencies within customer operations and will be beneficial for their businesses.”

EcoDigital was formed in June 2019 order to acquire the DIVA content-storage-management product suite from Oracle which it had itself acquired in 2014 as part of its acquisition of Front Porch Digital.

Telestream is backed by Genstar Capital, the private equity firm. It develops products for media processing and workflow orchestration; live capture, streaming, production and video quality assurance; and video and audio test solutions.
