RaceTech celebrates 75 years as a technical provider to British horse racing

RaceTech is celebrating its 75th anniversary this autumn. The company was originally formed in November 1946 as The Race Finish Recording Company with a brief to find a photographic solution to record accurate race results as horses crossed the finish line, something that was soon successfully achieved.

Since those early days, technology has developed at rapid speed, during which time RaceTech has created and adapted systems and technical solutions to enhance the sport for its participants, racegoers and television viewers.

From photo finish where it all began, to the development of starting stalls, live outside broadcasting, commentaries, public address and timing through to high-definition pictures, digital technology and remote solutions, RaceTech has set standards high. The company, owned by the Racecourse Association (RCA), provides live HD coverage of the entire race calendar as well as working with the British Horse Racing Authority to deliver integrity services at racecourses on a daily basis.

John Bozza, CEO at RaceTech, commented: “I joined the company as CEO four years ago and have been delighted how far we’ve progressed in this relatively short time. We now deliver core TV production services for the full fixture list in Great Britain and serve multiple rights holders across the globe. In addition, our services such as photo finish, stalls provision and public address are critical for the successful delivery of race day operations. I have been particularly proud of how we have continued this first class delivery in such a challenging period because of the pandemic, which is testament to our outstanding teams and partners.

“Reflecting back into the 75-year history has been fascinating and the entire team is very proud of RaceTech’s heritage. Looking ahead, we aim to continue to provide the horse racing industry with the latest technology and creative solutions, working together with all our partners for a sustainable and prosperous future.”
