Riedel distributing audio, video at FIS Alpine Ski World Cup

On behalf of sono Studiotechnik GmbH from Munich, which has been assigned to set up the IBC by host broadcaster ORF, Riedel Communications has installed a comprehensive fiber network for transporting video, audio and communication signals at the event.

The signal distribution backbone for this international TV production consists of 42 MediorNet mainframes and 60 RockNet digital audio interfaces. A total of 160 HD video signals and 200 audio signals are routed through this network. The integration of all relevant signals such as video, audio, Ethernet and intercom in one network infrastructure is designed to reduce effort and cost related to installation. In addition, MediorNet provides the flexibility to change the signal routing at any time.

For wired communications, Riedel has deployed three Artist Digital Matrix mainframes. Furthermore, Riedel set up a TETRA digital trunked radio network, which is used for the TV production, the opening ceremony and the Audi shuttle service.

In addition, the Riedel infrastructure provides the video downlink for the helicopter camera and wireless camera links for the two Camcat systems used at the event. On site, 20 Riedel service and support engineers provide support for both clients and equipment.

In addition to equipping the IBC, Riedel also supplies the German mobile production provider, TVN, and the Dutch event specialist Faber Audiovisuals, which uses Riedel RockNet for distributing audio signals during the opening ceremony.

A total of 92 cameras are used at the FIS Alpine World Cup in Schladming, making the event one of the largest alpine TV broadcast applications of all time.
