Riedel takes aim at satellite uplinks

As well as the previously announced European premiere of Mediornet Compact, which the company says is now also AVB-compatibile, Riedel Communications is also plannning to introduce a new service which, in the words of Andreas Hilmer, Director Marketing & Communications, “ will make satellite uplinks redundant.”

It’s a bold claim but one that the company seems genuinely excited by. “It’s not for every application, but for many – the further the distance and the longer and event lasts the more competitive our solution becomes. It’s really a very cool mix of products and services and to enable this we’ve bought another company, but I’m not giving you any more details until IBC,” he says.”

Elsewhere, the company is also planning to introduce a line of components (multiplexers, de-multiplexers and other fibre tools) that serve as accessories to Mediornet and any other fibre application. Plus there’s also an intercom-related product that Hilmer says “will provide a complete new approach to how the infrastructure for intercom systems can be laid out.”

And last but very much not least, the company has also opened a new office in Moscow to tap into the rapidly expanding market there, so it promises Russian beer every night at five on the stand.
