Save the Date(s)! SVG Europe announces multiple events for IBC
Underlining its growing profile throughout the European sports broadcast market, SVG Europe is organising several events to take place during the week of this year’s IBC, including the Sport Production Summit on 11 September and the Sport Award Reception on 13 September.
Taking place at the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, the Sport Production Summit is a welcome opportunity to take stock of the latest industry trends and examine in detail the workflows involved with some of this summer’s flagship tournaments.
The half-day summit will begin with a keynote from EBU director of technology and innovation Simon Fell. One year into the role, Fell will consider the major technology challenges lying ahead for European broadcasters, and discuss some of the key standardisation projects underway in relation to emerging workflows.
SVG editorial director Ken Kerschbaumer will moderate a panel session on the World Cup and second screen, examining the ways in which HBS and MLR broadcasters approached live streaming VOD, multi-angle services and stats integration from Rio. Specific issues to be considered will include the nature of the cloud coverage in place, including encoding and transcoding, as well as the type of social media integration supported for MLRs.
Among other sessions, the summit will also include an examination of the challenges involved in bringing the Commonwealth Games to the screen, the recent Ultra HD broadcasts at the World Cup, and a preview of the production set-up at this year’s Ryder Cup.
In time-honoured fashion, SVG Europe will also host its annual Sport Award Reception on 13 September. The latest edition of an Awards event that last year brought recognition for Red Bull Media House, Riedel and Origin Digital (sharing the Production Achievement Award) and BSkyB and ChyronHego (collecting the Technical Achievement Award) will take place in the 1st Floor Restaurant of the RAI from 6-8pm and will be accompanied by ample canapés and drinks.
More details on the Sport Award Reception and further IBC-related activity will be released in the coming weeks.
