SIS delivers Cartier Queen’s Cup transmission for ESPN

Reaching its conclusion on 16 June, the Cartier Queen’s Cup is played each year in Windsor Great Park at the Guard’s Polo Club, of which Prince Philip is president and the Queen a patron. Action from this final was captured by production company Blue Tuna, with SIS LIVE handling the 3.5-hour transmission of pictures from site to broadcaster ESPN.

SIS LIVE deployed one of its compact HD uplink/production units , SIS 59. This unit was designed and built by SIS LIVE’s systems integration team and features a 1.8m antenna and the ability to take up to three camera sources when required.

The HD signal was encoded to DVBS2 8PSK MPEG4 specification and uplinked on 18MHz of SIS LIVE’s dedicated satellite space on Intelsat 905. SIS LIVE has over 500MHz of permanently leased satellite capacity across five different satellites. SIS LIVE also operates a multi-satellite iDirect hub for satellite internet and streaming requirements.

The pictures were downlinked at SIS LIVE’s Teleport at MediaCityUK in Salford and delivered to BT Tower in London where the client collected the feed. This state of the art teleport went live in July 2012 and is the largest broadcast teleport in the north of the UK. Featuring 9 dishes ranging from 3.8m up to 9m covering Ku, Ka, C and DBS bands, SIS LIVE’s teleport brings an unprecedented level of connectivity to the region, as well as to the MediaCityUK complex itself.
