SIS Live prepares for The Open

Sandwich: Tiger’s injured knee might be keeping him out of next week’s British Open, but interest in the oldest major on the calendar is higher than ever. SIS Live is acting as host broadcaster on behalf of BBC Sport, and has been busy laying 70km of cable around the Royal St Georges course and building the 20,000sqm Broadcast Compound since the start of the month.

By SIS’ own admission, The Open qualifies as a very large outside broadcast, and it is in attendance with a suitably very large fleet: namely OB1, OB3, Unit 12, Unit 10, CTSV4, X Trailer, Fibre Trailer, seven support trucks, and two PSC vehicles.

The camera spec is suitably Brobdingnagian too, encompassing roughly 54 cameras including on the more specialised side: 8 RF cameras, an X –Mo working RF all around the course, and a Steadicam operator on a Segway trackway. In addition SIS is also deploying two Jimmy Jibs (one on RF working all around the course), seven hydraulic camera hoists including a 72m one which can see all around the course, 16 EVS servers, and five FCP editing clients which will tie into its X Trailer FCP server system.
