Sky Deutschland announces launch date for Sky Sport News HD

Germany: Sky Deutschland is launching its new 24 hour sport news channel for Germany and Austria on the 1st of December, writes Birgit Heidsiek. Following the model set in other territories, Sky Sport News HD will report around the clock about all important events from the world of sport.

“In our modern media world we don’t have often the possibility to develop something new which has not existed before in Germany and Austria. We are delighted that this is going to happen with Sky Sport News HD shortly very soon,” states Carsten Schmidt, Board of Sport, Advertising Sales & Internet. ‘The launch of this broadcast channel marks the beginning of a new era in the history of our company. Sport fans in Germany and Austria can look forward to a unique and innovative form of reporting.’

Sky has already hired 200 new employees since the new sports channel was announced on February 24. The newsroom, which also includes a studio, is currently built in the heart of the Sky headquarters in Unterföhring near Munich. In an area by the size of 400 square metres there are going to be installed more than 20 kilometres of cable. Essentially, Sky Sport News HD will be located in the most modern news studio in Europe, one that gets equipped with brand new LED lamps as well as eight remote control camera systems.

This state-of-the-art technology allows the seamless integration of Sky Sport News HD into the multi-platform strategy of Sky Germany and ensures that the new sport channel will be distributed via TV, internet, iPhone, iPad, Xbox 360 as well as in Sky bars and hotels. In addition, the 24 hour sport news channel perfectly integrates the viewers through social networks and various interactive elements. Sky Sport News HD is part of Sky’s world package which means that it will be automatically activated for all Sky customers.
