Sky secures exclusive multiplatform transmission rights for US Masters

The German pay TV channel has announced that it will transmit the US Masters in Augusta live and exclusively in Germany, writes Birgit Heidsiek. Sky also holds the rights for the US Open, the Open Championship and the PGA Championship, and will present live coverage of all major golf tournaments in the years ahead. As Germany‘s number one golf broadcaster, Sky shows the US PGA Tour, the European Tour and the Ryder Cup.

Other tournaments on Sky include the World Golf Championships, the Asian Tour and the Sunshine Tour, while highlights of the European Seniors Tour and the Challenge Tour are also shown. The German Sky subscribers can follow exclusively live and in HD the ongoing Arnold Palmer Invitational in the Bay Hill Club & Lodge with master champion Adam Scott, FedExCup winner Henrik Stenson, US Open cup holder Justin Rose, Zach Johnson and golf stars such as Bubba Watson, Graeme McDowell, Hunter Mahan, Ian Poulter and Keegan Bradley. Sky offers golf fans the most comprehensive programme package on German TV as well as on mobile devices. The top highlights can even be seen in 3D.

This hole-in-one shot has been expanded by the acquisition of the US Masters in Augusta, Georgia, which will be exclusively distributed by Sky in Germany and Austria. “Augusta is the most prestigious golf tournament and a pinnacle in terms of tradition and top-class sport,” stresses Burkhard Weber, Sky Sports Manager. “I am delighted that with the acquisition of these rights our golf portfolio becomes more complete. Sky customers can experience live not only the competition for ‘Green Jacket’, but all the big highlights of the sport the whole year around. Sky is and remains Germany’s golf broadcaster number one in the coming years.”

In addition to the classical TV transmission rights, Sky secured the exclusive Internet, IPTV and mobile rights. In addition, every day during the US Masters shortly after the end of the match subscribers will find clips of the highlights in Sky’s media library at sky.de. In addition to the live reports, Sky Sport News HD keeps viewers to up to date around the clock about all the latest events in the world of golf.
