Carbon footprint management is an essential part of any responsible TV production, and broadcast technical services company Suora Broadcast (formally Streamteam Nordic) has been shortlisted for this years’ ‘One Planet Award for Sustainability in Sports TV’ at SVG Europe’s highly competitive Sports TV Awards 2021 for their work.

Reducing carbon dioxide emissions has been part of Suora’s strategy since 2018. In 2020, they finally made their carbon footprint calculations with Nordic Offset Oy, using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol standard for calculations and reporting. Based on the calculations, they investigated how to achieve carbon neutrality in all of their sports predictions, and since the beginning of 2021 have become a fully carbon neutral company.

To maintain carbon-neutral productions, they found five key elements to address. Although most of their existing sports productions were produced remotely, they committed to raising that number even higher. They also committed to replacing diesel production vehicles with biogas and electric ones, alongside switching their production facilities to run on green electricity. They began encouraging employee bicycling to reduce car usage and chose Gold Standard certified destinations from Ethiopia and Uganda for Gold Standard compensation.

The winners of the SVG Europe Sports TV Awards 2021, sponsored by Canon, will be announced on Thursday 28 October at Chelsea F.C. during the Sport Production & Technology Summit 2021. Registration for both events is now open to members and sponsors here.
