As the host broadcaster for the FIS Ski Tour Nordic 2020, Sweden’s national public broadcaster  Sveriges Television (SVT) had the opportunity to push boundaries in the pursuit of a better environment, earning their highly sort after place on SVG Europe’s prestigious ‘One Planet Award for Sustainability in Sports TV’ shortlist.

Building on several years of remote production development, SVT completely eliminated the need for multiple OB trucks, and reduced the number of people on-site during the Ski Tour Nordic 2020, greatly decreasing their carbon impact on the environment. With over 20 cameras transmitting all of the action to the world, SVT didn’t even use over 32 amps of power to do so. Likewise, through less need for setup time, they were able to contribute to a zero-waste implementation and set a leading standard for the rest of the broadcasting industry.

The technical equipment SVT used in this, and other sports productions helped them demonstrate a valuable impact on the environment. SVT has shown that it is entirely possible to create world-class sports events with the environment in mind.

The winners of the SVG Europe Sports TV Awards 2021, sponsored by Canon, will be announced on Thursday 28 October at Chelsea F.C. during the Sport Production & Technology Summit 2021. Registration for both events is now open to members and sponsors here.
