Have you ever turned on your TV to find out you’ve missed the key moments of a match? Well, now imagine if you could watch all those highlights while still staying fully up-to-speed with the live game on too. Sky Sports Recap has been shortlisted in the ‘Outstanding OTT Experience’ category at SVG Europe’s prestigious Sports TV Awards 2021 for doing exactly that.

The objective of Sky Sports Recap was to enhance viewers’ experience on the Sky Q platform by letting them watch both highlights and live games simultaneously through a mix of unique picture-in-picture technologies. Partnering with Comcast AI & Data, Sky Sports Recap officially launched in June 2020. The first game, Aston Villa v Sheffield United had over 1.3m highlights viewed in the first week alone. By the end of the year, that figure jumped to over 16 million highlights watched across all games played.

The Sky Sports Recap interface is also one of the first in the UK to use cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning. They were able to analyse and enable highlights to be automatically selected via video and data sources, which were then fed directly into Sky Sports Recap – all for the benefit, and enjoyment, of the viewer at home.

The winners of the SVG Europe Sports TV Awards 2021, sponsored by Canon, will be announced on Thursday 28 October at Chelsea F.C. during the Sport Production & Technology Summit 2021. Registration for both events is now open to members and sponsors here.
