SportTech 2016: Virtual Reality takes leading role in Dublin May 18

Virtual reality applications were everywhere at NAB last month; but how do you separate VR reality from hype? Is VR the next big thing for sports, or the next 3D? SVG Europe’s SportTech 2016 in Dublin May 18 will provide answers with our key ‘Virtual Reality in Sports’ session.

The idea of virtually putting the viewer in the centre of the action or the crowd is hugely compelling, but there are question marks over how suitable it is for all sports. Announcements have been made and trials conducted in a number of sports including basketball and wrestling, but the highly lucrative markets of soccer and American football are different propositions entirely.

There’s also the question of how large the addressable market for VR sports will be – many people love to watch sports, but not everyone will buy into this new medium. Futuresource will aim to shed light over these subjects by looking at the challenges facing sport in VR as well as examining the expected consumer uptake of headsets in the short to mid-term. Presenting for Futuresource at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin will be the company’s Adam Cox, Senior Analyst Broadcast & Professional Video Equipment.
