SportTech 2019: Panel to discuss best practice for streaming live sport

A specially convened panel session during next month’s SportTech 2019 event at Lord’s (22 May) will discuss the highs and lows of distributing and viewing live sports content via the internet.

‘It’s Just Got to Work – Keeping Viewers and Subscribers Happy when Streaming Live Sport’ will see speakers from DAZN, BBC and Tennis TV, among others, provide expert insight into the potential pitfalls of live sports OTT and streaming and, importantly, also offer up suggestions for getting it right.

The discussion will take in latency and buffering, video quality, device consistency and user experience, handling spikes in demand, product personalisation and more.

The confirmed speakers so far are:

  • Oliver Thompson, executive product manager, BBC
  • Marcus Parnwell, senior vice president of market expansion, DAZN
  • Andrew Hall, director, Tennis TV

A further speaker and a chairperson will be announced soon.

The session is part of a jam-packed SportTech 2019 line-up focussed on how OTT, social media and live streaming are changing the landscape for televised sport.

Other topics to be addressed include attracting the next generation of sports fan and fast turnaround clipping and highlights creation.

The event will also include a special preview of the ICC Cricket World Cup, an SVG Europe Women’s networking event and an invite-only ‘Carbon Literacy for Sports Production’ workshop.

Further speakers will be announced in the coming days.

As with all SVG Europe events, there will be plenty of networking opportunities throughout SportTech 2019 and delegates will also get the chance to take part in a guided tour of Lord’s.
