Sunset+Vine wins Hempel World Cup Series broadcast contract

Sunset+Vine has been awarded the production and distribution contract for the 2021 Hempel World Cup Series, the Olympic Classes Global Tour, from World Sailing, the world governing body.

Under the terms of the contract, Sunset+Vine’s production team will deliver daily social and digital content, news material and an event highlights show. In addition, Sunset+Vine’s Media Partnerships team will provide international news and highlights distribution to the network of broadcasters, news desks and digital platforms.

During the Hempel World Cup Series, all 10 Olympic sailing classes race on an international circuit, with the first event – in a shortened 2021 calendar – taking place in Medemblik, Netherlands from 2-13 June where eight of the 10 Olympic classes will be racing. Further events will be announced in due course.

This will be the last major World Sailing event for Olympic sailors ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, in Enoshima.

Andrew Preece, executive director at Sunset+Vine, said: “Working with World Sailing on this Olympic classes World Cup contract is special for Sunset+Vine. In an Olympic year the spotlight is on these events and the form guide for Tokyo and we look forward to delivering the story to the news desks of the world and creating content that will help sports fans around the world connect with their heroes ahead of Tokyo.”

Head of media partnerships Sarsfield Brolly, said: “We value our long-term relationship with World Sailing. We have been distributing Olympic sailing content over several Olympic cycles and are pleased that our programming, news and social networks are able to generate coverage in all of the major markets.”

Daniel Smith, director of communications and digital at World Sailing, commented: “In an Olympic year, it is important our sport is expertly presented and distributed to global broadcasters and news outlets in our key target markets. Sunset+Vine is the global expert in sailing production and distribution and is a perfect match to deliver the 2021 Hempel World Cup Series.”

Sunset+Vine’s relationship with World Sailing has seen the company be host broadcaster and distribution partner for the previous three Sailing World Championships in Perth (2011), Santander (2014) and the Aarhus World Championships in Denmark (2018). In addition, Sunset+Vine produces the monthly grand prix sailing magazine series The World Sailing Show, which is licensed to World Sailing as the official television series of the international federation.

The company also produced the BBC’s sailing coverage for the Beijing, London and Rio Olympics as well as providing production services for the 35th America’s Cup in Bermuda, which included news distribution and UK live and highlights programming for BT Sport and the BBC.
