SVG Europe Audio: More speakers including NBC’s Karl Malone announced for Sports Audio Summit 2025

Karl Malone, NBC Sports and Olympics senior director of audio engineering, is joining the lineup of speakers for SVG Europe Audio’s Sports Audio Summit 2025.

Taking place on Wednesday 19 November at Kings Place, Kings Cross, London, speakers from OBS, Riot Games, Sky Sports and more will be sharing their audio views and news on the biggest sports events and most spectacular technological breakthroughs and trends from around Europe and beyond in the region’s top annual sports broadcasting audio event.

Sponsored by Audio-Technica, the full-day event will consist of panels and presentations from the top people working in live sports broadcasting sound, and will include plenty of time for networking.

Malone joins Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) sound design and audio manager, Nuno Duarte for our keynote – ‘Powder and ice: Looking ahead to the sound of Milano Cortina’ – where the pair will provide a preview of what we can expect to hear from the slopes, as well as discussing what challenges are being faced by both the host broadcaster and the major rights holder.

In ‘Production virtualisation for audio in outside broadcast’ we will hear from Alex Judd, Sky Sports technical specialist, alongside Pam Barnes, Cloudbass’ head of audio, talking about the audio on new hybrid production models and designing flexible trucks that can be fully remote controlled or operated on site.

We will also hear from Alex Rybalko, Riot Games senior manager of broadcast engineering, in ‘Follow the sun: Riot Games on its evolution of esports audio’. Rybalko will talk about how the esports pioneer’s new Project Stryker remote broadcast centre (RBC) in Seattle, US – which joins the first RBC in Dublin, Ireland – is revolutionising esports audio production.

Additionally, looking at the European live sports broadcast community, in ‘Another brick in the wall: Students in audio’, we will hear from Felix Krückels, Professor at the University of Darmstadt, recent graduate Robyn Filman, Ren Neave, a University of Salford undergraduate, and Ethan Grimwood, a sound assistant at Cloudbass.  The panel will explore how the new generation of audio engineers and guarantees that are out there are looking at audio in live sports production, from what interests them, to what they hope to gain from a career in this area.

The SVG Europe Audio team of editor Heather McLean and independent consultant, Roger Charlesworth, will be on hand to ensure the day goes smoothly.

More speakers will be announced soon.
