SVG Europe hires Hosken as GM, Sturzaker as Sponsorship Manager

SVG Europe is pleased to announce that longtime broadcast publishing executives Joe Hosken ([email protected]) and Clare Sturzaker ([email protected]) have joined the company as General Manager and European Sponsorship Manager, respectively. They are the latest in series of hires that include adding long-time industry journalist David Davies ([email protected]) as Managing Editor of the SVG Europe Web site and email newsletter.

“SVG Europe is following the accelerated growth pattern of SVG itself, with a growing number of members and sponsors supporting a wide range of events, media properties and industry initiatives,” says co-executive director Martin Porter.  “Our new expanded and dedicated staff now positions us to take SVG Europe to the next level to better serve the needs of the pan-European sports production community.”
David Davies joined the SVG Europe team at the end of last year and has been writing about professional audio/visual technology and music industry issues since 1999. A long-term contributor to Pro Sound News Europe and Installation magazines, he has also written for TVBEurope, Q, Music Week, Record Collector, Making Music, Residential Systems Europe, iQ (the Journal of the International Live Music Conference) and many others besides. In his new freelance role as managing editor of SVG Europe, he says is particularly excited about tracking the change face of broadcast technology in his three favourite sports of tennis, cycling and running.

For 10 years Joe Hosken was the Publishing Director for the Music and Entertainment Technology Group at international media company United Business Media (UBM) plc. He left to form his own business consultancy when the division was sold in late 2011.

At UBM Hosken was responsible for a portfolio that comprised a range of market leading business-to-business brands that included magazines, conferences and digital products. He played key roles at TVB Europe, The IBC Daily, HD Masters, The IT Workflow, Pro Sound News Europe, Installation Europe, The ISE Daily, Music Week and The Music Week Awards, plus a variety of international exhibition daily newspapers and digital newsletters.

While being responsible for Group P&L and overall business development, Hosken worked closely with international technology vendors, end users and various trade associations.

Prior to his role in senior management at UBM Joe Hosken was an editor and commercial editorial director within the company, primarily working across technology brands. He has worked in consumer and B2B media for 30 years.

In addition to hiring Hosken and Davies SVGS Europe has also hired Clare Sturzaker as European Sponsorship Manager. Sturzaker’s career began 25 years ago on Broadcast Weekly Magazine in 1988 as well as Screen International and Sound Engineer. In 1993 she worked in the broadcast market on IBE Magazine, beginning as sales manager and working her way up to Publisher for 20 years with Argus Business Media and DMG and then BPL Broadcast. While there she also worked on Communicate magazine, ERT Weekly, and Resolution magazine. She most recently worked with BPL and the IBC on the launch of the Mobile Zone at the IBC in Amsterdam, eventually developing it into “Connected World.” New projects for IBC include the London Technology Booster conference from 2013.

“Since its launch I’ve been aware that SVG Europe provided a unique service for the European sports broadcast community,” says Hosken. “I’m delighted to be involved with the dedicated  European team as we work to take the SVG Europe brand to the next level. ”
