SVG Europe Sport Production Summit to address BT Sport’s 4K innovation

The latest forward-looking technology conference summit from SVG Europe, Sport Production Summit 2015, will take place at the Hotel Krasnapolsky, Amsterdam, on 10 September, immediately before this year’s IBC. Among the keynote sessions will be an in-depth exploration of BT Sport’s newly-launched 4K channel, as well as discussions of the latest approaches to OB design and the potential of immersive audio.

To say that the August launch of BT Sport’s 4K channel – the first of its kind in Europe – was eagerly awaited would be to risk a dramatic understatement. The technological challenges overcome to reach this point have been considerable, whilst in the industry at large there is still much difference of opinion about the probable rate of UHD adoption.

With content set to include selected games from the UEFA Champions League, Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and Aviva Premiership Rugby, no one could accuse BT Sport of half-measures with its new channel. The Ultra HD channel is available to BT broadband customers with its Infinity service, which offers download speeds of up to 160 megabits per second.

In this specially devised session for Sport Production Summit, the advances behind the new channel will addressed by a panel including: Andy Beale, BT Sport, Chief Engineer; Eamonn Curtin, Telegenic, Commercial Manager; Duncan Foot, MOOV, Managing Director; Steve Hart, RT Software, Owner; Jamie Hindhaugh, BT Sport, Chief Operating Officer; Dan McDonnell, Timeline TV, CEO; and Steve Plunkett, Ericsson Broadcast and Media Services, CTO.

Other topics to be examined during a packed day of presentations and panel sessions will include ‘UEFA Next Generation Services’, ‘New Approaches in OB Design’, ‘Sound Affects: the Potential of Immersive Audio for Sports’, Remote Sports Production: A Pac-12 Revolution’ and ‘View From the Top: Making Big Plans for 2016’. There will also be special presentations from SVG Europe Platinum sponsors, as well as contributions from numerous other leading industry voices including Dolby’s Rob France, NEP Visions’ Brian Clark, Euro Media Group’s Luc Geoffroy, Sky Italia’s Manuela Baraschi and CTV OB’s Barry Johnstone, among many others.
