The first speakers have been revealed for the SVG Europe Summit, taking place at De Hallen Studio’s in Amsterdam on 10 September and sponsored by Panasonic.
Louise Lawler, Eurovision Sport, head of content, and Arjan van Westerloo, NEP Europe, executive vice president, will take part in a panel moderated by SVG Europe chair and Sky Deutschland senior vice president of sports production Alessandro Reitano. They will discuss the key forces reshaping European sports broadcasting and production, including rising rights costs, digital shifts, and emerging technologies.
Later in the day, Thomas Schöneich, director of media & communications, and Jelena Bagarić, TV & media operations manager at the European Handball Federation, will offer a candid look at how and why it produces and distributes content across broadcast, digital and emerging platforms, aligning media output with wider organisational goals. They will also explain how a culture of rapid experimentation, iteration and “fast failure” enables the federation to compete for attention in a crowded global sports market.
David Taunton, international sports broadcasting, head of production, and Bobby Baksi, SVT Sport, project manager, will then share practical approaches to faster turnaround highlights, archive digitisation and reuse, multi-platform versioning, and high-volume social clip production. The discussion will also examine the tools and infrastructure behind these workflows.
The final session of the day will see Tony Cahalane, ITV Sport, technical director, and Paul McNamara, ITV Sport, executive director and producer, share production lessons from the FIFA World Cup 2026. They will also consider what these lessons mean for future major events, and how European broadcasters can apply them to their own coverage strategies.
The day will end with Yiannis Exarchos, chief executive of Olympic Broadcasting Services, receiving the 2026 Outstanding Contribution to European Sports Broadcasting award at The Summit.
