SVG Europe unveils HBS’ Angell as Chairman
SVG Europe is pleased to announce that Peter Angell, Director of the Production and Programming Division at Host Broadcast Services (HBS), is to become the first Chairman of its influential Advisory body.
HBS is, of course, the Infront Sports & Media-owned company originally established to produce the television and radio signals for the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups. Following its success at those two tournaments, it was then appointed by FIFA to be the Host Broadcaster for the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. It is currently planning the host broadcast of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil and the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
As Director of the Production and Programming Division at Host Broadcast Services, Angell has had an intimate hand in producing the first HD and 3D feeds from two of the biggest sporting events in the world, and brings a wealth of experience to his role with SVGE.
“Everyone in the European sports broadcast industry has paid close attention to the growth and success of SVG over the past six years in the USA, and wondered if we could benefit from the same sort of organisation. We can and we should,” says Angell. “It’s an enormously exciting time for European sports broadcasting, and I’m looking forward to taking an active role in helping to further establish the organisation across Europe and help bring the sports broadcast community together.”
“Peter brings a vast amount of experience, knowledge and insight into SVG Europe, and I’m delighted he’s accepted the role of Chairman,” says Andy Stout, European Editorial Director. “After a successful year of operation, it’s time to step things up to the next level and, with Peter’s input, I’m confident that we can do just that.”
“Peter has been an important part of the SVG community since our earliest days and he has a solid vision for SVG Europe that will result in exciting and informative events and initiatives,” adds Ken Kerschbaumer, SVG Editorial Director. “And the respect industry colleagues have for not only his work but as a person and leader makes him the perfect choice.”
