SVG Europe welcomes NTT Electronics as new Platinum Sponsor

ntt-electronicsSVG Europe is delighted to announce that NTT – whose product range includes an extensive inventory of leading encoder and decoder solutions – has become the latest addition to its roll-call of Platinum sponsors.

Part of the NTT Group, NTT Electronics has provided MPEG encoders/decoders to sports broadcasters for more than 20 years. The company started selling encoders and decoders into the sports industry when some customers required low-delay solutions; as a result, NTT developed a new solution based on MPEG2 and began providing devices to a wide variety of sports broadcasters.

NTT has provided its solutions to many of the world’s biggest sports tournaments, including the Olympics, Premier League and others. The company’s principal aims continues to be the supply of great technologies and products to its increasing number of customers and partners all around the world.

EBU motorsport project

NTT is able to point to a number of current sports broadcast projects, including the EBU’s decision to test NTT’s HEVC encoder and decoder for live content transmission at several tournaments during 2016 and 2016, including a number of motorsport events. The new HC11000E encoder and HC11000D decoder, based on HEVC technology, are being employed to work with content that is being distributed over some

NTT says that HEVC is more efficient than H.264/AVC because it can reduce transmission bandwidth by up to 50% without losing picture quality – making it possible to increase the number of channels delivered within the same bandwidth.

Graham Warren, EBU director of network & news, said: “The EBU continues to develop our new service platform with cutting edge HEVC technology. And by utilising the results from the tests foreseen in real operational environment we will be able to provide a flexible next generation service portfolio to our clients.”

Joining SVG Europe

Explaining the decision to join SVG Europe as a Platinum sponsor, NTT Electronics Europe Business Development Manager Marco Fabi comments: “NTT would like to provide its HEVC products to a lot of broadcasters, thereby increasing the overall number of customers using its products. For this reason, we believe that SVG Europe is the ideal partner to help share our message with the sports industry because it will give us the possibility of meeting key people at the summits which take place every year. In addition, the panels organised by SVG Europe are extremely interesting from a technical point of view, and will help NTT Electronics to showcase the potential of its solutions.

“NTT has been delivering HEVC products since the beginning of 2016. Demand for 4K support is constantly increasing, and the broadcasters/telco/operators that own 4K content are looking for a reliable and high-quality UHD encoder and decoder. Some broadcasters have been testing NTT products and are going to launch new 4K live services. Therefore NTT would like to highlight these experiences to other sport broadcasters through its involvement with SVG Europe.”

Through joining SVG Europe, Fabi expects that NTT “will be able to identify new opportunities, reach new customers, and increase our presence in the sports broadcast industry.”
