SVG Europe Women emerges from Initiative rebrand
SVG Europe’s Women in Sports Media Initiative (WISMI) has been rebranded as SVG Europe Women — SVG Europe W for short — and been given a slick new logo designed to help take the initiative forward.
The name change has come about in response to the rapid growth of SVG Europe W, which held its first event in December last year with 20 attendees. This week’s winter tech networking event at BT Sport studios in Stratford was attended by more than 200 people. The name change was announced publicly at the event.
Heather McLean, contributing editor at SVG Europe and internal head of SVG Europe W, commented: “SVG Europe W events are quickly growing in popularity and professionalism, and we want to be able to reflect that in our name and logo. The new brand is not only much easier to say, but it makes it clear that this initiative is open to all in sports media, from students studying to move into the industry, to camera operators, editors, directors and presenters.
“Next year we have four events planned for SVG Europe W: one at SportTech at Lords in May; the next will be our summer networking event; then onto a full event at IBC in Amsterdam in September; and finally another winter networking event,” continued McLean. “2019 is going to take the initiative onwards and upwards.”
Also starting in 2019, McLean will be publishing a bi-monthly newsletter for those signed up to the SVG Europe W list, which will cover news and interviews with and related to women in the industry, as well as SVG Europe W.
