The aim of the workshop is to provide us with the tools we need to keep moving forwards without fear of exhaustion, burn out and even physical pain as a result of stress and anxiety.

Special guest speaker, wellbeing and resilience coach Sarah Swanton, will take us through this session looking at why we are feeling stress and anxiety, what the physical and mental repercussions can be, and onto how to manage these feelings with a series of strategies to help us stay centred in the moment, and long term.

Attendees will be able to ask Swanton questions and discuss their own experiences and feelings.

“We need to bring down our stress response. We need to keep ourselves in a strong, resilient foundational position, so that no matter what happens, we can manage our response”

Says Swanton: “The one thing that we can all be sure of at the moment, is that we can’t be sure of anything. There’s all sorts of change going on that is out of our control, as an industry and as a normal human being trying to plan and have a life. As humans we love to feel in control of situations, and when we don’t, it gives rise to stress and anxiety.

“This uncertainty has been going on for nearly two years now, with plans changing at the last minute. When we’re faced with a stressful situation we tend to go into fight or flight, depending on our reaction, but that stress response is only meant to be a short term response. But this stress response now has been going on for so long, that constant state of hyper alert and stress response starts to become a habit.

“We need to bring down our stress response. We need to keep ourselves in a strong, resilient foundational position, so that no matter what happens, we can manage our response,” Swanton states.

For those of us that need to travel for work and personal reasons in 2022, the issue of self-care has never been more important says head of SVG Europe Women and SVG Europe editor, Heather McLean: “Many of our community members are looking forward to getting back on the road for the great sporting events of 2022, bookended by the Winter Olympics in Beijing to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year, and with the UEFA Women’s Euro’s in the middle. However, we are still living with COVID and the continuing uncertainties that brings. That can cause anticipatory anxiety – perfectly understandably – for those of us that are expected to travel for work.

“This wellbeing session from SVG Europe Women is going to give us a solid toolkit to help us manage those feelings, to be able to do our jobs, and stay safe physically, and importantly, mentally. Wellbeing has never been a more important topic,” McLean concludes.
