SVGE Sport Production Summit: OBS TV’s John Hunt to chair UHD football debate

As part of SVG Europe’s Sport Production Summit at the NH Hotel Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky on 11 September, OBS TV executive John Hunt will moderate a session on the challenges surrounding the Ultra HD live 4K production at the FIFA World Cup earlier this year.

These groundbreaking broadcasts of the event’s final stages were undertaken by FIFA, host broadcaster HBS and technical production partner Sony. Three matches including a quarter-final and the final at Rio’s Maracanã stadium were covered in 4K. Twelve Sony F55 cameras and a number of upconverted specialist cameras created the 4K live mix, working with a new 4K-ready Globocast truck crewed by Telegenic.

During this session, key participants Mark Grinyer (Sony Professional Solutions Europe, Programme Manager, World Cup 2014) and
Paul Redman (Head of FIFA Films) will discuss the challenges and wider industry impact of this historic project.

Looking ahead to the session, moderator John Hunt says he intends to “concentrate on the production challenges [raised by the arrival of 4K] in terms of the current lack of equipment, as well as the need to change methods of production. Who will lead those changes, and how will they alter the way events are filmed and broadcast in the future? We will also discuss the many cost issues surrounding these developments.”
