SVT secures broadcast rights for Stockholm Open 2023

Swedish public broadcaster SVT has once again secured the rights for the Stockholm Open, taking place on 14-22 October at the Royal Tennis Hall. Spring Media handled all media rights sales and will also be producing the tournament for SVT.

Stockholm Open appointed Spring Media as its advisor for the tournament in 2019 when it was looking for a partner to provide consultancy, growth and production services for one of the most iconic tennis events in Sweden. The tournament is the oldest indoor ATP tournament and throughout the years has featured classic games with Björn Borg, John McEnroe, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Boris Becker. Last year’s Stockholm Open attracted record viewing on SVT and close to 30,000 visitors when 19-year-old Danish star Holger Rune won the tournament.

“SVT as a broadcast partner is of great importance for the continued development of tennis in Sweden as well as having exciting Swedish players who always become crowd favourites here at home. It is fantastic that SVT will continue to show world-class tennis even for those who do not have the opportunity to experience the tournament live at the Royal Tennis Hall,” said Jamie Perry, CEO Stockholm Open.

Stockholm Open will be available to Swedish viewers through SVT’s linear channels as well as SVT Play throughout the week. Internationally the tournament is included in ATP’s central media package, which is broadcast in 100 countries globally.

Last year’s tournament had record viewing with over 1.7 million on SVT and an additional 4.2 million viewers internationally, which is a great showcase of Swedish tennis,” said Manfred Aronsson, chairman at Spring Media.

The first players for the 2023 tournament are expected to be presented in June.
