Tech landmark as Eurosport announces 360HD multi-feed for Roland Garros

Eurosport is accelerating the roll out of its exclusive live sport multi-feed service after agreeing a new distribution partnership with Telefonica in Spain. Eurosport 360HD debuted on Sky Deutschland in August 2013 with the US Open Grand Slam, and now the live multi-feed and multi event service will be accessible to subscribers of Telefonica in Spain starting with the 2014 French Open tennis Grand Slam from Roland Garros.

Eurosport 360HD is said to put the viewer in control of the live action by offering access to the multiple (fully produced) camera feeds from selected live sporting events. In Grand Slam tennis this allows the viewer to choose which match to follow from all the filmed courts of play, seven courts from the French Open, and six from both the US and Australian Open tournaments.

Subscribers to Telefonica will be able to experience this service beyond tennis during this year’s summer of sport on Eurosport, starting with the Le Mans 24hrs race. Multiple feeds from this vast event will enable fans to follow the action and get a 360-degree view of the event, with options of watching the live race, from on-board cameras in the cars and a paddock/pit lane feed.

The on-board camera feed will have its own TV directors on site selecting the best images to ensure the fans are watching the most relevant action.

Jean-Thierry Augustin, CEO of the Eurosport Group, said: “Eurosport is continuously looking for new ways to make the live viewing experience for fans more immersive and more entertaining, alongside providing unique added value to our platform partners, and with Eurosport 360HD we can deliver this. It presents a compelling offer to our distribution partners to support their content marketing to existing and potential subscribers. The technology also puts fans firmly in control, they can experience every aspect of a live event and decide what action they want to follow.”
