Telecom Italy, Fastweb collaborating on network architecture

Leading Italian telecommunications companies Telecom Italy and Fastweb have signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of their next-generation network architecture ITICab (Fibre to the Cabinet: fibre optics + copper).

The two operators have started work on a national development plan for the next generation network. The agreement identifies areas of common interest, including the sharing of passive infrastructure and coordination of implementation, in order to accelerate the roll-out of optical fiber.

This project could help to precipitate the rapid spread of ultra broadband services on a national scale in line with the objectives set established in the Digital Agenda of the European Union.
