Thirty-two cameras capture the IAAF World Indoor Championships, Poland

Held in March in Sopot, Poland, the IAAF World Indoor Championships drew the involvement of sports people from 150 countries worldwide, writes Tomasz Kolaczyk. The event was carried by approximately 30 international broadcasters, and some of them – including Eurosport, BBC, TV Globo and host broadcaster TVP – created their own studios in Sopot’s Ergo Arena. The event was also relayed on four giant LED screens located above the main field of play.

A total of four OB vans were on-site throughout. From Polish TV, the HD 16 camera van served as the main production centre, while Livecast (Germany) and the BBC supplied two and one vehicles, respectively. In total, 32 cameras located in the Ergo Arena gave a wealth of angles.

For the first time a Newtek 3Play4800 slow motion system was located in the video referee room, recording all the running competitions for referee purposes. Six cameras from the Polish TV OB van were connected to the 3Play showing precisely all collisions and appeals during competitions. The international jury of the IAAF is reported to have been extremely satisfied by the performance and quality of the recordings and replays.
