TV2 collaborates with Sixty on new Media City Bergen studio

Interactive TV company Sixty has collaborated on a new studio for Norwegian commercial broadcaster TV2. The studio is located at the newly-built Media City Bergen hub, which will soon provide a venue for the inaugural SVG Europe Nordic Summit, taking place on 15-16 June 2018.

The enhanced studio will deliver engaging technologies such as Vizrt augmented reality graphics and virtual windows to enrich presentation value and heighten the viewing experience.

Norway’s Media City Bergen cluster is a world leader in augmented reality, graphics, visualisation, digitalisation, broadcast and television technology. Sixty’s role in this joint collaboration was to help TV2 rebrand their news design package, and create a range of innovative AR openers for newscast, sportscast and economy news. By replacing the traditional show opener video sequence with live graphics, and running every opening sequence synchronised with robotic cameras, the AR opener will be updated with up-to-date unique content collected from the current news topics. As a result, TV2 will have a comprehensive studio set that responds to the fast-paced demands of news programming, enabling automated camera shots and the ability to seamlessly integrate and edit graphic overlays for live broadcasting.

“By collaborating with members of the media cluster in Media City Bergen, we were able to tap into the cradle of global knowledge and expertise on our own doorstep and work alongside proven innovators and next generation developers,” said Eivind Netland, Head of Design, News/Sports/Current affairs at TV 2. “Sixty’s involvement ensured that we were able to create an advanced and technologically flexible studio that can be tailored to specific programming and viewers, delivering an immersive and differentiated broadcast news experience.”

The Media City Bergen collaboration included the use of Electric Friends’ W2 Tower and T2 Generic Trolley, which combine to overcome the complexities surrounding the movement of camera equipment around the studio floor, particularly during the filming of live opening sequences. Running on an invisible trolley cable management system, the T2 Generic Trolley and W2 Tower simplify the production of content by adapting to necessary slow and fast camera movements and reducing the risk of collisions with studio equipment, guests and crew.
