TVU Networks brings AI to the track for the 2025 Wings for Life World Run
How do you capture a race that spans 170 countries, 310,719 runners, and every possible time zone? For Red Bull Media House, the answer was with the cloud, smartphones, and a powerful dose of AI.
Partnering once again with TVU Networks, Red Bull Media House brought a bold, tech-forward approach to this year’s Wings for Life World Run. At the heart of it all was a smarter, AI-driven workflow that made it easier than ever to search, select, and share standout race moments and athletes from across the globe.
Similar to last year, the event was covered in three parts: seven Flagship Runs, transmitting their program and selected ISO feeds via TVU RPS One, 23 App Run events equipped with cameras and TVU RPS One units featuring six built-in 5G modems, and 30 App Run events using the TVU Anywhere app on smartphones, that enabled advanced real-time production and recording workflows.
Behind the scenes, all video feeds were sent to a central control room in Munich, where editors and journalists used TVU Partyline’s cloud multiviewer to follow the action in real time. They could easily monitor all incoming live feeds, identifying and switching between the most engaging moments worldwide.
The 2025 winner was captured using just a smartphone running the TVU Anywhere app, fully remote-controlled via TVU Partyline. Through the Remote Setup interface, the production team could adjust zoom, speaker volume, white balance, colour temperature, tint, focus, exposure, and even lock the app to prevent local changes, all in real time. This setup allowed for precise control from a distance, highlighting the growing role of mobile contribution and the strength of TVU’s flexible, cloud-based live production infrastructure.
New for this year, however, was the introduction of AI in the edit room.
For the first time, Red Bull Media House used TVU Search to combine facial, starting number, and logo recognition into a single interface. This allowed producers to instantly find specific athletes, public figures, or branded moments across hours of live content, with no scrubbing or guesswork required.
“With the new Appearance Board in TVU Search, Red Bull Media House can track the presence of their key athletes and partners across all feeds with just a click,” explained Johannes Heckmann, solutions architect at TVU Networks. “It’s a huge time-saver and gives them real control over how stories are told.”
