Viacom upgrades media production, archive workflows with EVS OpenCube

Viacom has extended its long-running relationship with EVS by upgrading its media management workflow with the latest version of the EVS OpenCubeHD/SD MXF ingest server. The investment will help Viacom to fully digitise and streamline its file-based media production and archive workflows, and open up new content management and potential monetisation streams.

The investment builds on Viacom’s existing EVS OpenCube digital media archiving workflow. Launched at IBC 2013, the new version of the EVS OpenCubeHD/SD server enables Viacom to manage the transport of closed captions and subtitles in its MXF file-based production and archive workflows by generating *.SCC/*.MCC files and S436M tracks at ingest.

“EVS Media has an enviable reputation for developing and implementing highly innovative and reliable solutions based on the industry’s latest standards. With the new version of EVS OpenCubeHD/SD server, we will not only be able to address the key issue of closed captioning in a file-based workflow but can take advantage of new opportunities for managing SD and HD video content and multiple audio channels,” said Chris Johannesen, content creation specialist, Viacom Media Networks.

Viacom, which supports US-based channels such as MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central, has been using EVS OpenCube servers since 2007, when it invested in a number of OpenCube HD servers for MXF archive digitization.

“Viacom’s decision to renew and expand its investment with us demonstrates its continued confidence in EVS,” said Benoit Fevrier, senior vice president, EVS Media. “As our first ever US customer of EVS OpenCube, we’re particularly proud to be continuing to play a key role in their media workflows.”
