Video interview: Sky Sports’ Sarah Cheadle on the art of match directing

During the Football Summit in Paris, SVG Europe caught up with Sky Sports senior director Sarah Cheadle to discuss the art of football match directing.

In this exclusive interview, she tells SVG executive director of editorial Ken Kerschbaumer about the importance of ‘story’, explains how and when she uses new toys and technology and reveals some insights about her career to date.

The conversation also looks forward to the upcoming Women’s World Cup, a tournament that Cheadle will be working on.

“I love the close-up cameras, like the steadicams. We had a Spider Cam for the [League Cup] final penalty shoot out [feeding pictures from behind the penalty taker]. It felt like you were right there taking the penalty, actually kicking the ball. It was a different way to view penalties but to me it was brilliant.”
