Villareal and FC Barcelona to play first LaLiga regular season match outside of Spain

For the first time ever, an official LaLiga match will take place outside of Spain as Villarreal play FC Barcelona on 20 December 2025 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
This event will be the first time in history that a major European football league stages an official regular-season match with points on the line outside its home country.
“This is a landmark moment for LaLiga and for world football,” said LaLiga president Javier Tebas. “By bringing an official match to the United States, we are not only connecting with millions of fans across North America, but also reinforcing Spain’s leadership as a global soccer powerhouse. With the support of all relevant institutions, this initiative is bold, historic, and designed to inspire both our fans abroad and those at home in Spain.”
This milestone is the result of years of dialogue and coordination with all stakeholders and stems from the request of the participating clubs, with the full support of LaLiga to expand their international growth, strengthen fan engagement, and enhance the global value of Spanish football.
The historic match will be available across the world via existing LaLiga broadcast partners and air in English and Spanish on ESPN networks, LaLiga’s exclusive home in the US.
Fans in Miami can expect a world-class live experience– not only with elite football on the field but also fan zones, cultural events, sponsor activations, and special community engagement programmes around the match week.
