For the 2023 FIM Speedway GP season Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is rolling out additional trackside and vehicles-mounted cameras to capture more of the action, as well as extra on-screen stats so viewers can get more insight into what is happening

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has announced it is continuing to enhance its coverage of one of the world’s premiere two-wheeled motorsport competitions, the 2023 FIM Speedway GP season.

The broadcaster is rolling out additional trackside and vehicles-mounted cameras to capture more of the action, as well as extra on-screen stats so viewers can get more insight into what is happening.

With every round of the 2023 FIM Speedway GP season set to be broadcast live on discovery+ and the Eurosport App, live coverage and highlights television coverage on Eurosport (Pan-Euro and Asia) and free-to-air network coverage on Quest (UK), TTV (Poland), 6’eren (Denmark), Kanal 9 (Sweden) and Eurosport 1 (Germany), Warner Bros. Discovery is underlining its commitment to reaching even bigger audiences and breaking new ground for the sport.

Celebrating 100 years of speedway in a year which also sees the eagerly anticipated return of the Speedway World Cup, Warner Bros. Discovery’s coverage of the Speedway GP season will feature new innovations to bring fans even closer to the action. Enhanced on-screen graphics will display live race data including rider speed and standings across each lap and 3D track presentations will be displayed before each round to demonstrate the intricacies of each circuit.

Even more cameras will cover every angle including 16 pit cameras with eight streamed at one time; four on board cameras including two bike cameras, one start marshal camera and one race director camera, in addition to RF and ISO cameras. Each Speedway GP winner will also be equipped with a live camera to provide fans with unique first-person views of the podium ceremony following each race.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s international presentation team includes host Abi Stephens, former professional riders Kelvin Tatum and Chris Louis on commentary and seven-time British champion Scott Nicholls as on-site reporter and eyes in the pits. New for 2023, four-time SGP World Champion Greg Hancock will also be joining WBD’s team to provide his expert analysis to define riders’ styles and strategies during races.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s coverage of the 2022 FIM Speedway GP in partnership with 15 international broadcasters saw it reach hundreds of millions of fans across 110 countries in five continents. On its own platforms, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Speedway GP content generated more than 23 million minutes viewed across its streaming platforms alone. Working with local promoters, Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Events secured an in-stadium attendance exceeding 170,000 fans across the 2022 season.

Scott Young, SVP content and production at Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe, said: “Our first season as the promoter and host broadcaster of Speedway Grand Prix provided us with a unique opportunity to apply a new approach to a much loved sport. Our events and content teams had a blank canvas to map out exactly how we could unpack everything this exhilarating competition has to offer. We wanted to connect the stars of the sport to their fans in new and innovative ways, showcasing an entertainment spectacle around the teams and riders. Our ambition was to expand engagement by connecting fans to the sport in ways they couldn’t ordinarily gain access to. We had to be authentic for existing fans whilst introducing SGP to a new casual audience.

“After reaching tens of millions of fans last year through our all-platform approach, which combines the scale of Warner Bros. Discovery’s channels and digital platforms with broad free-to-air access through our partners, we are excited to return with even more action-packed features, innovative production techniques, camera angles, and storytelling tools that will truly highlight the spectacle that is speedway. All this supports our mission to continue the growth of the sport for all to enjoy.”

Last season – the first in the new era for Speedway – Polish hero Bartosz Zmarzlik claimed the world title with Danish star Leon Madsen second. Zmarzlik’s compatriot Maciej Janowski took third with Sweden Fredrik Lindgren three points behind in fourth. Britain’s Robert Lambert finished the 10-round season in fifth.

Warner Bros. Discovery Sports’ live motorbike offering now includes every race from the FIM Speedway GP season, plus all events on the FIM Speedway calendar including SGP Qualifying, SGP2, SGP3 and the FIM Speedway of Nations – available to watch across its suite of platforms.
