Watch: FIFA head of host broadcast production Oscar Sanchez on getting set for the World Cup

With the World Cup draw taking place this evening (5pm GMT / 6pm CET) at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the formal countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is underway.

Earlier this year, Oscar Sanchez, FIFA’s head of host broadcast production, spoke to attendees at SVG Europe’s Football Summit where he shared the evolving broadcast strategy for the tournament. He spoke about several key components of the production plan, including:

  • The scale of the operation across 16 venues and 104 matches, with the first rest day not arriving until day 27

  • Establishment of the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) in Dallas, supported by 16 fixed venue production teams, while replay operations and camera shading will be managed centrally in a sophisticated hybrid workflow led by HBS

  • The industry-wide shift toward a hybrid IBC model and how FIFA will make all broadcast feeds accessible to rights holders even outside the IBC
