DTS tech partners add MPEG-DASH live-streaming support for DTS-HD content

DTS, a leader in high-definition audio solutions and audio enhancement technologies, announced that Elemental Technologies, a leading supplier of video solutions for multiscreen content delivery, and castLabs, a mobile video technologies and services company, will support live streaming of DTS-HD content through the MPEG-DASH format. This will allow streaming of immersive DTS-HD for applications such as live sports and music events.

DTS-HD is a high performance discrete audio codec designed specifically to enable streaming services to deliver content to consumers in immersive 5.1 surround sound. A universal adaptive streaming format, MPEG- DASH enables high-quality streaming of media content to Internet-connected TVs, set-top boxes, PCs and mobile devices.

Elemental Technologies will integrate DTS-HD via MPEG-DASH within Elemental Live, its video processing system that provides real-time video and audio encoding for linear TV broadcast, as well as live streaming to new media platforms. castLabs will support playback of DTS audio technology in all major streaming formats and current generation (AVC/H.264) and next generation video formats (HEVC/H.265) on its Android and iOS players.

DTS will demonstrate how these integrations create an end-to-end solution—from content encoding and stream packaging to streaming playback on a tablet—at its IBC stand.

DTS also announced that Digital Rapids, trusted provider of innovative solutions and technology for transforming content to reach wider audiences more efficiently, more effectively and more profitably, will support the production of DTS-HD content in the HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and Microsoft Smooth Streaming formats.

Lastly, DTS announced that Bouygues Telecom of France will now be offering DTS 5.1 surround sound on Bouygues Telecom Bbox Sensation’s video on-demand (VOD) service. Delivering the ultimate on-demand entertainment experience to Bouygues Telecom’s IPTV, cable and fibre customers, DTS 5.1 surround sound, powered by DTS’ advanced Neural UpMixTM solution, enables an immersive HD-quality audio experience that equals the visual clarity of HD video.

“Through this collaboration, our catalog of DTS-encoded Bbox VOD movies will be able to be enjoyed by our customers in immersive 5.1 surround sound directly in their living rooms,” said Franck Abihssira, vice president broadband access, contents and services, at Bouygues Telecom. “This is the first time customers of a VOD service in France will have access to outstanding surround sound technology from the same company that delivers HD-quality audio on Blu-rayTM movies.
