IBC 2016: Keepixo integrates Technicolor HDR, demos end-to-end HDR transmission

Keepixo, a provider of software-based head-end solutions for IPTV and OTT, announced that it has added support for Technicolor HDR, a single stream High Dynamic Range delivery solution to its Genova software and AL2000 transcoder products.

technicolorHDR technology provides higher brightness and increased contrast between the dark and bright areas of an image, to display the most realistic and vivid pictures possible. The general consensus is that HDR dramatically improves the viewing experience of HD content and, when combined with UltraHD/4K, unlocks the full potential of this new format.

Technicolor HDR distributes all major HDR formats and unifies workflows so that all content can be rendered on any display. Technicolor HDR guarantees 100% backward compatibility with legacy Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) equipment, such as STBs and TVs. This makes it possible for end-users to enjoy a consistent experience on existing and emerging devices while preserving the original intent of content creators.

“The deployment of HDR by service providers throughout their complete broadcast chain needs to be done smoothly to ensure backward compatibility with legacy equipment.” says Jerome Blanc, COO of Keepixo. “By working with Technicolor, we are able to prove the flexibility of our video encoders and transcoders to add different flavors of HDR technologies.”

Keepixo will carry out a demonstration of an end-to-end HDR transmission using the Technicolor HDR premium delivery solution at IBC 2016 in Amsterdam. The demonstration will be available on the Keepixo booth in Hall 1.C29.
